ARAFO, fue un noble Guanche, habitante del Menceyato de GÜIMAR que participó en la batalla de Acentejo contra los conquistadores. En la misma el ejercito castellano, sufrió una severa derrota frente a los aborígenes de Tenerife, que teniendo como únicas armas las piedras y los bastones, aprovecharon sin embargo su conocimiento de un terreno abrupto, encrespado y con abundante vegetación.

ARAFO, lejos del lugar donde nació, perdió la vida en la contienda, pero bien es cierto que su espíritu luchador e indomable sigue presente, de la manera que solo los seres mitológicos permanecen en el inconsciente colectivo. Así, a través de las sucesivas etapas de su historia, el carácter y la personalidad de los habitantes de Arafo se ha moldeado con los rasgos más acusados de su héroe, perfilando una manera de vivir, de amar y de sentir.

El Volcán de las Arenas, el 2 de Febrero de 1705, después de un espantoso terremoto, erupcionó a las faldas del pico del Valle. El suceso conmovió a los habitantes de tal manera, que hubieron de abandonar casas y enseres para refugiarse en los campos, por temor a perder la vida. Pareciera que el destino obligaba a los descendientes de los aborígenes a librar una nueva batalla por la supervivencia, ahora no contra el invasor, sino contra las fuerzas de la naturaleza.

Su atractivo entorno natural, la existencia de dos barrancos que discurren paralelos, Añavingo y Amance en la pared frontal de la montaña, que guardan de alguna manera la esencia espiritual y los secretos mitológicos de esta zona. En el primero, una pequeña imagen de San Agustín vela por la prosperidad de los campos, el ganado y los habitantes. En el segundo, con una frondosa vegetación de Laurisilva, los más soñadores del lugar sitúan la existencia de una puerta de paso a otra dimensión, por donde el alma de ARAFO, el guerrero guanche, se hace presente cuando las dificultades hacen necesario el aliento de su espíritu.

Esta composición se estrenó el día 27 de Agosto de 2017, en el Auditorio Juan Carlos I de La Villa de Arafo (Tenerife, España) por “La Sociedad Filarmónica Nivaria”, dirigiendo el autor, Ferrer Ferran.

ARAFO, was a noble Guanche, inhabitant from the Menceyato of GÜIMAR that participated in the battle of Acentejo against the conquerors. In the very battle, the Castilian army suffered a severe defeat against the aborigines of Tenerife, that having as only arms the stones and the canes, nevertheless took advantage of their knowledge of an abrupt and frizzy terrain with abundant vegetation.

ARAFO, far from the place where he was born, lost his life in the contest, but it is true that his fighting and indomitable spirit is still present, in the way that only mythological beings remain in the collective unconscious. Thus, through the successive stages of its history, the character and personality of the inhabitants of Arafo has been molded with the most characteristic features of his hero, outlining a way of living, loving and feeling.

The “Volcan de las Arenas”, on 2 February 1705, after a terrible earthquake, erupted at the foot of the valley peak. The incident shook the inhabitants in such a way that they had to leave houses and belongings to take refuge in the fields, for fear of losing their lives. It seems that destiny forced the descendants of the aborigines to wage a new battle for survival, not now against the invader, but against the forces of nature.

Its attractive natural environment, the existence of two parallel ravines, Añavingo and Amance on the front wall of the mountain, which somehow guard the spiritual essence and mythological secrets of this area. In the first, a small image of St. Augustine watches over the prosperity of the fields, livestock and inhabitants. In the second, with a luxuriant vegetation of Laurisilva, the most dreamers of the spot place the existence of a gateway to another dimension, where the soul of ARAFO, the Guanche warrior, becomes present when the difficulties make necessary the encouragement of his spirit.
