La guerra del Golfo Pérsico comenzó con la
invasión y anexión de Kuwait por las tropas de Irak el 2 de agosto de 1990.
El Consejo de Seguridad de la ONU condenó la ocupación y autorizó el empleo
de la fuerza (el 15 de enero de 1991) para obligar a Irak a retirarse de
Kuwait y restablecer la paz y la seguridad internacionales.
Los aliados, una coalición internacional de 28 países dirigida por EE.UU,
desencadenaron la operación Tormenta del Desierto para liberar a Kuwait. El
ejercito iraquí, muy castigado por los bombardeos, se derrumbó rápidamente.
Las tropas huyeron o fueron aniquiladas en una batalla que tuvo lugar al
este de Basora, el mismo día en que fue liberado Kuwait por completo, el 27
de febrero de 1991.

The Gulf War started with the invasion and
annexation of Kuwait by the troops of Irak on the 2nd of August 1990. The
United Nations Security Council condemned the occupation and authorized the
use of military force (on the 15th of January 1991) to force Irak to pull
out of Kuwait and re-establish international peace and security.
The Allies –an international coalition of 28 countries led by the USA-
carried out the operation called "Desert Storm" to free Kuwait. The Iraqi
army, strained by the bombings, collapsed rapidly. The troops fled or were
wiped out in a battle which took place east of Basra on the same day on
which Kuwait was finally freed the 27th of February 1991.
